How to properly clean a shot blasting machine
Proper cleaning of the shot blasting machine is crucial for ensuring efficient equipment operation, extending its lifespan, and guaranteeing operational safety. Cleaning must be performed throughout the entire process—before, during, and after operation—and integrated with routine maintenance and periodic upkeep.
**Pre-operation preparation:** A safety check and equipment verification must be conducted before each start-up. This includes wearing impact-resistant goggles, a dust mask, and non-slip gloves to ensure the cleaning area is free of obstructions; checking the shot volume in the shot blaster (filling the container to 70%-80%), the sealing of the cleaning chamber door, and the operational status of the dust removal system; simultaneously confirming that the shot blaster impeller is not severely worn (replace if the blade thickness is reduced by more than 1/3), that the elevator chain tension is normal, and that the electrical system indicator lights and emergency stop button are sensitive and reliable. Monitoring during operation: During operation, strictly follow the standard procedures. After starting the equipment, run it unloaded for 1-2 minutes to observe the shot blaster's rotation direction, speed (usually 2000-3000 r/min), and any abnormal noises in the cleaning chamber. Adjust the shot blasting parameters according to the workpiece material and surface condition, such as steel shot particle size (1.5-2mm for metal workpieces, 0.8-1.2mm for furniture frames) and blasting angle (45°-60° recommended), and control the shot blasting time (generally 1-5 minutes to avoid over-cleaning and surface pitting). Do not open the cleaning chamber door during operation. If workpiece shaking, abnormal noises, or uneven shot blasting are observed, immediately press the emergency stop button to stop the machine and investigate. Post-cleaning finishing steps: After shot blasting, shut down the machine in the following order: First, turn off the shot blaster and elevator. After the equipment has completely stopped, open the cleaning chamber door, remove the workpiece, and check its surface quality (no rust or scale indicates it is qualified); promptly clean any residual shot and dust inside the equipment, check the wear of components such as the shot blaster blades and screw conveyor, and regularly lubricate the drive chain and calibrate the shot blasting angle.
Daily maintenance points: Clean the filter bags of the dust removal system every shift to prevent clogging; check the wear of the shot blaster blades weekly; lubricate the reducer transmission components monthly; and conduct a comprehensive inspection of the electrical system's grounding resistance (should be ≤4Ω) and the fixation of the wear-resistant liners quarterly; if any misalignment of the directional sleeve, abnormal separator wind speed, or track deformation is found, adjust or replace the components promptly to maintain stable equipment operation.
